Miles of Smiles

Volunteer Centre Tameside (VCT) is developing a Volunteer Car Scheme to ensure that appointments are met and patients receive the medical attention they desperately need. Many people find it difficult to get to hospitals, dentists' surgeries, chiropodists, health centres, or even their GP's surgeries on time if they cannot use public transport easily, and yet do not qualify for the ambulance service

The scheme involves volunteers using their own vehicles to take patients to and from various health related appointments.

An important part of the scheme is the befriending element which many of our older passengers really appreciate, so if you have a few hours to spare and would like to make a huge difference to the life of an older person, volunteer now to become a volunteer driver. In return for your time you will receive full training and volunteer expenses of 40p per mile.

If you have your own vehicle and would like to get involved, contact Sue Vickers or Julliette Atkinson at Volunteer Centre Tameside on 0161 339 2345 to find out more.
